We sneak into the cracks of the anthropological machine and nest in there! The castle is open!
The philosopher Giorgio Agamben describes the anthropological machine in
his work “The Open. Man and the Animal” (2003) as a thought structure
that separates humans from animals – whether by inclusion or exclusion.
This machine produces what is deemed “human” by constantly drawing a
border and placing certain beings inside or outside this category. In the open,
on the other hand, beings can become indistinguishable from one
another; at the same time, it is a place of possibilities from which the
interstices of the anthropological machine can be infiltrated and where
 lush ecosystems are formed.The
Museum Morsbroich, founded in 1951 as a venue for contemporary art in a
baroque castle complex, has a long history as a hunting lodge and seat
of a knightly order, among other things. There are many such in-between
spaces here. The exhibition presents them with cross-species stories of
animals, fungi, plants, bots and landscapes that have infested and
colonised them. Here we are entertained; we listen to stories from
parasites, scroungers and mutants whose worlds have long been in decay
and which can tell us about survival in polluted and troubled
environments. Mistletoe children use the props of the castle to tell us
about their criminal lifestyle, which appropriates the resources of
those rooted in the ground. Albatrosses mourn their mates who have
starved to death from the rubbish left behind by the machine. Human fish
find pleasure in glitching between animal and human bodies. A snail
occupies corridors and a stairwell in the castle and wets cleaned
surfaces with its slime. A dog wants a name, hamster aesthetics spread.

Eve, Adam‘s former assistant gardener, returns to paradise after the Fall. In a paradise garden in Norfolk (UK), she encounters apple trees, gardening rules, walls, a dovecote with pigeons and a rare beetle. In an installative video game, players can enter Eve‘s memory space of this garden, follow her footsteps and find thoughts and traces that Eve left behind. What was paradise?

The black-and-white game environment is based on pointclouds that where collected during a monthlong research period in the garden and dovecote in England. Players explore paradise from a first person view and activate 3D scans that are linked to audio-text-fragments. If they choose wisely, they gain access to multispecies perspectives. If not, these remain inaccessible and they are left behind as humans – confined in an alienated version of the garden.

Sounding Earth is a geography of listening—a sound map of alive terrains. It is an acoustic tapestry woven not from memory, not from archive, but as a heartbeat…from the Real time - now.

This artistic research project is born from the fieldwork across India, Bhutan, and Indonesia, transmitting the sounds from these regions in real time. The microphones placed in those landscapes capture biodiverse terrains and their elements… human and beyond human. They do not record, or capture, or translate: they extend! These live sounds are spoken through handcrafted instruments that were built together with instrument makers from those countries.

This installation is like extending the ears in several directions, at several points across our planet at the same time. Through this installation, several mechanical times from different spaces merge into this constant living moment, here. They emerge, shift, vanish, and are alive, never the same twice.&#38;nbsp;This is a cartography made through ears, not lines. A sensing of place through resonance. A co-composition with wind, animals, weather, and the breadth of the lands. This project is a call To listen…Now….

The
Body as Threshold is a multimedia installation consisting of an
experimental CGI film and sculptural elements. Drawing on Judith
Butler’s notion of violence as a force field - diffuse, structuring, and
entangled with grief - and on Thom van Dooren and Deborah Bird Rose’s
understanding of extinction as an ongoing collapse, the work explores
layered relationships between bodies, materials, and systemic harm.

The film
unfolds within a speculative digital landscape: an island shaped by the
entanglement of land, species, and waste. Albatrosses and plastic
debris inhabit this collapsing ecology, where gestures of care become
fatal, and where contamination and survival are tightly knotted. A
flying camera navigates this oceanic garbage patch, revealing sites
where violence, disrupted temporalities, and the breakdown of “coherent”
 narratives emerge.

The
installation invites viewers to confront the interdependence and
precarity of the more-than-human world. Mourning is not positioned as an
endpoint, but as an ethical stance - a first gesture toward reconfiguring
how we grieve, love, and remain accountable in the face of ongoing
loss.

Scattered
throughout the space are sculptural seating forms filled with plastic
waste collected in collaboration with a collective from
Menorca - materials akin to those found in the stomachs of dead seabirds.
These sculptures act as both ergonomic supports and conceptual
tricksters: they welcome the body while confronting it with the weight
of complicity. They offer spaces to sit, pause, and stay with the
trouble - making grief tangible, relational, and shared.

My grandmother and I were born on different peaks of Colombia's central mountain range, very close to the páramos, the fog, and the lagoons. It was in Germany, so far from the Andean mountains, that I saw for the first time a condor, the mythical bird of South America. Encountering this animal and my grandmother's memories led me to embark on a journey with her to El Cocuy, her birthplace.
The Mountain of My Grandmother Cloud is a mixed media installation that brings together the materials of our reencounter with the territory and proposes a mythical rewriting of my grandmother's memories in which she, together with my maternal lineage, are transformed into condors and clouds. The intention of gathering these records is to create an affective geography; to retell; to insist; to bring the past to the surface; and to listen to the voices of the place: the mountain, the lagoon, the fog, and the condor.

<description>JENNIFER DE NEGRILA LUNGA STRADA, 2025

Three-channel video installation, 15:30min, HD projection on silk fabrics, 140 cm x 400 cm; thread-bound essay book

”We have lived before. We will live again.

We will be silk, stone, mind, stat. We will be scattered, gathered, molded, probed. We will live.” Octavia Butler

Silk was once a well-kept secret — how the fabric was made, where it came from. For the De Negri family, it was the foundation of life for many generations. The video installation LA LUNGA STRADA and the literary essay

illuminate a family legacy, the historical entanglements of the textile industry, and the material silk itself — one for which billions of silkworms are killed each year. Cultural-historical reflections are interwoven with multispecies storytelling; absences are speculatively filled. What emerges is a fabric of stories — of weavers, witches, silkworms, family secrets, scientific anecdotes, and mythology. Together, they form delicate manifestos of interconnectedness.

From 2009
to 2018, Karl the grey parrot and his companion Clara lived with Ute Hörner and
Mathias Antlfinger. During this time, parrots and humans worked together as the
interspecies collective CMUK and explored different ways of cooperation,
exchange and learning from each other. They created sculptures, paintings,
video and sound recordings.
After
Karl‘s death at the age of around 60, Hörner/Antlfinger were faced with new
questions about the cohabitation of animals and humans: Where did Karl, who found
his way to them from an animal shelter in Berlin, but was most likely born in
freedom and later captured, originally come from? What is his story and that of
many other grey parrots that have been moved all over the world since the
transatlantic enslavement trade? How have humans and parrots met historically?
What images have shaped this history and how can they be looked at differently
today?
Hörner/Antlfinger travelled to Uganda, where they collaborated with environmental
activist Nick Byaba to explore the habitats of the parrots. Reflecting on
Karl’s ancestors led them to European museums. There, they attempted to trace
the individual histories of the parrots between Africa and Europe, using the
available information on the history and provenance of the collections, as well
as other forms of knowledge.

The Backpack of Wings is an artistic research project that investigates communication with
non-human beings. Inspired by new tracking technologies for wildlife and earthquake myths from East Asia, the project combines current scientific research with speculative future
scenarios.

Since ancient times, there have been reports that animals can foresee natural disasters
before humans. This assumption forms the basis for many legends and myths but is also studied in today’s science. Using mobile measurement systems, also known as telemetry
systems, data is collected: animals are measured, analyzed, and tracked. This provides
insights into animal behavior, also in correlation with human activities and
climatic changes.

Based on mythological traditions and scientific findings, Jeong and Yuk develop fictional
scenarios: using telemetry data, natural disasters are predicted in the near future, or a network is developed in the distant future that digitally connects animals and humans: an
Internet of Animals. This technology would redefine the relationship between humans and
animals and the way we deal with the climate crisis and its impacts.

The whole project is presented as an multidimensional installation through several works:
The film “The Backpack of Wings: Modern Mythology” depicts a near future, and a further
future with the installations “Pĭlacommúnĭtas”, “Super Pĭlacommúnĭtas”, “Nephesh”, “2022 Artifact”. The workshop “The Backpack of Wings: Sensory Networks” puts the lens on one
migratory bird by using the GPS data, and invites the participants to create an imaginary
storytelling.

The video game installation&#38;nbsp;deprofundis.exe leads visitors into a twilight space, where animal industry and pop industry meet in uncanny ways. Based on 3D-scans and photogrammetry data collected during activist undercover research in a pig factory farm, it leads the visitor to a place that was supposed to remain hidden.
deprofundis.exe was developed by Pascal Marcel Dreier in collaboration with Elene Seefeld and other activists. It was curated by Leoni Fischer for the solo exhibition De Profundis at Galerie Stadt Sindelfingen in 2023.Supported by Helmut Fischer Stiftung, Galerie Stadt Sindelfingen, Animal Rights Watch, TRACES Studio for Creative Investigation.
