Drifting, Talking, Parting, Quiet, Coming Together
EcoSenda residency working period on the island of Korppo

The first part of the residency title is Borrowed from the philosopher Jan Slaby and he describes it as following: “An affective arrangement comprises an array of persons, things, artifacts, spaces, discourses, behaviors, expressions or other materials that coalesce into a coordinated formation of mutual affecting and being-affected.”[1] And in a very straight forward manner, that`s what we are aiming for – together we`ll form a temporary arrangement of presence, artistic tinkering, sharing and talking to form a collective draft-like consciousness of the island and its surroundings.

The second part of the title is inspired by two different sources. The verb list by Richard Serra[2] is a list of words depicting actions of artistic doing. In the original verb list, most of the words describe a very forward oriented and active attitude of forming matter. And yes, I think we need to be active but also be critical about what we are reaching for. Not being too active and accidentally overshadow the faint gestures, stories or politics by (let’s say) the environment. In the -60s. the artists group Situationist International (SI) generated the technique of Dérive[3] to counteract the capitalist structuring of the city-/ landscape. In short, the idea is that our rational and preprogrammed relationship to existing and being in places prevent us from experiencing the “true” nature of our surroundings. Our Dérive is going to be slowness, listening, looking, being super careful not to interpret too much, giving time for the experience.
