JENNIFER DE NEGRI
LA LUNGA STRADA, 2025
Three-channel video installation, 15:30min, HD projection on silk fabrics, 140 cm x 400 cm; thread-bound essay book
”We have lived before. We will live again. We will be silk, stone, mind, stat. We will be scattered, gathered, molded, probed. We will live.” Octavia Butler
Silk was once a well-kept secret — how the fabric was made, where it came from. For the De Negri family, it was the foundation of life for many generations. The video installation LA LUNGA STRADA and the literary essay
illuminate a family legacy, the historical entanglements of the textile industry, and the material silk itself — one for which billions of silkworms are killed each year. Cultural-historical reflections are interwoven with multispecies storytelling; absences are speculatively filled. What emerges is a fabric of stories — of weavers, witches, silkworms, family secrets, scientific anecdotes, and mythology. Together, they form delicate manifestos of interconnectedness.
